Foreign Policy, a General Statement   As part of a larger agenda of promoting human rights around the globe, I have led the bipartisan fight for transparency in oil, gas and mining industries; worked to raise awareness of the escalation of all forms of intolerance; and helped make gender equity a priority in our diplomacy and development.

Foreign Policy, a General Statement     I support President Obama's diplomacy in rebuilding America's influence around the world, respecting the rights and aspirations of other nations, using the resources, ingenuity and decency of the American people to build bridges to our fellow world citizens. We should not seek to dictate to them, but to respect and work with those who mutually respect us. The best way to diminish radical and terrorist influence in the world is to support the aspirations for freedom and democracy and to allow them to feed, clothe and educate their children and build their nations, just as we desire to do.

United Nations (UN)     Yes, but Not Quite especially under President George Bush's administration. Working with UN and the international community can be important and cost-effective for furthering U.S. national security interests to build support for global action on enduring foreign policy interests, such as international stability, prosperity, and the promotion of fundamental freedoms. Unfortunately, the United States owed $1.5 billion its UN dues, but provided $700 billions Wall Street bail out. U.S. has acted on its own, e.g., war in Iraq, and is asking the UN to undertake complex missions in places like Iraq, Lebanon, and Darfur. Besides, Social issues are interrelated, horizontally and vertically, local-global. For detail on issues, see website URL: Vote-MD.org/Intro.aspx?Id=MDYoungLih. OPPOSE STRONGLY $700 billion Wall Street Bailout. It was absurdly proposed by the White House President George Bush with false excuses to help the people, and then passed by the Congress in emergency manner by adding more billion with further false excuses to help the main street. Basically, it was processed in such a speedy and improper manner, as often done by conspiracies among White House, Congress, Wall Street corporations, legal occupations, officials and related "official misconduct- government gang- fraud- crime- injustice networks" operation, unjust influences, manipulation and practices. It is not based on the essence of "capitalism", fairness, good principle, concepts, merits, justification, priorities, social needs, cost-benefit and budget constraints, etc. There is really no discussion, debate, examination or investigation about the problems, the justification of the bailout, the magnitude of the bailout, and other consideration, e.g., other projects or social programs which have been ignored.

International Criminal Court (ICC)     The International Criminal Court is the world's only permanent international court with jurisdiction to try individuals accused of genocide, crimes against humanity, and serious war crimes when national courts are unwilling or unable to act. More than 100 countries have joined the Court. Social issues are interrelated, horizontally and vertically, local-global. Social issues are interrelated, horizontally and vertically, local-global. To achieve the agenda meaningfully for the best interest of the people, we must also do the tasks this Candidate Lih Young has long recommended.

US Treaties     In 2006, UN adopted a common Global Counterterrorism Strategy that denounces all forms of terrorism and a detailed plan of action for fighting terrorism at the national, regional and international levels. US should help implement this new comprehensive strategy. Social issues are interrelated, horizontally and vertically, local-global. To help the UN Mission related to: (1) promoting national reconciliation; (2) facilitating regional dialogue on issues such as border security, energy, and refugee matters; and (3) providing humanitarian assistance to and reintegration of refugees and internally displaced Iraqis, etc. Social issues are interrelated, horizontally and vertically, local-global.

Third World Debt Relief     To strengthen international commitment to anti-poverty efforts. Reaffirmed by world leaders in 2005, the UN Millennium Development Goals (or MDGs) include eight concrete objectives for achievement by 2015: cutting extreme poverty in half; achieving universal primary education; empowering women; reducing child and maternal mortality; reversing the spread of AIDS and other deadly diseases; protecting the environment; and cooperating internationally on these aims. Social issues are interrelated, horizontally and vertically, local-global. Russia and Eastern Europe     UN peacekeeping is perhaps the world's best example of cooperating for international security--an effective means of ensuring that no nation has to pay all the bills or take all the risks associated with maintaining international peace and stability. Despite its continued support for new and expanded missions, the U.S. has been negligent in paying its fair share for UN peacekeeping, resulting in more than $1.2 billion in debt at the UN for peacekeeping operations alone. Social issues are interrelated, horizontally and vertically, local-global.

G8 (Group of Eight Countries)     Under the framework of the United Nations, the international community has begun the process of drafting a successor agreement to the Kyoto Protocol on climate change, which expires in 2012. The goal of these negotiations is the establishment by the end of 2009 of a widely-accepted comprehensive international agreement for preventing catastrophic climate change, which requires diplomatic, economic, scientific and technological cooperation. Social issues are interrelated, horizontally and vertically, local-global.
