Why I Am Running for Public Office     My plan to "Reinvest in America" is a return to our hope in the fundamental principles that built this great country - hard work, innovation, investment in new ideas, and a belief in the fortitude and ingenuity of the American people. Putting Americans back to work and creating new job opportunities for college and high school graduates requires an intensified yet sustainable jobs policy that rewards American businesses that invest in American workers. Educating our children and out-educating the rest of the world in order to regain our global competitiveness requires a "students-first" commitment of resources, time and talent to all children. Supports for our teachers must reflect this commitment. Taking better care of our elderly and war veterans requires a deliberate expression of gratefulness for those who paved the way and risked their lives for all of us. Caring for our planet by restoring and protecting our air, land and water is critical to our quality of life and human survival. Finally, ending the partisan political bickering that has polarized our nation, our state, and our local communities is vital to achieving the hope and promise of a renewed America.
