As I have spent the last several years traveling through the world in support of my naval reserve duties I have noticed that America continues to remain a symbol and a place of great opportunity and hope. To lead in this new century, we must lead in new ways. We need to build a stronger manufacturing infrastructure one which is competitive in the world market. We need to start to manufacture products domestically. This development is as essential to America's security as diplomacy and defense. Source: www.blagmon.com/Issues (04/02/2012) |
My highest priority is to bring more jobs to Maryland and maintain the jobs that we have. Our fragile economy is starting to grow, but there are too many Marylanders still struggling through no fault of their own. I regularly work around the partisan gridlock to support initiatives that will help jumpstart our economy. I agree with President Obama that our economy must be fair and work for everyone. I believe that we can get more Americans working and grow our middle class again by investing in America. The federal government has a responsibility to invest in programs that help boost job creation while protecting our most vulnerable citizens. Working Americans rely less on government services, buy more - which helps the economy - and pay taxes, lowering the financial burden for all. Source: bencardin.com/#Issues (04/02/2012) |

| Jobs, a General Statement |
The working men and women of America must become a priority. They must not be replaced with illegal foreign workers. The wages of this group has continuously fallen due to illegals and loss of manufacturing in the United States. I am running for office to specifically return the focus of the Democratic Party back to the welfare of American citizens and not special interests. * Strengthen our Manufacturing Sector - Construction and manufacturing represent one-third of the job loss in Maryland. Currently, Maryland has close to 4,600 manufacturing businesses generating roughly $16.6 billion in gross state product, and employing more than 125,000 workers. These are numbers that we can increase dramatically if we provide tax relief and other incentives to the manufacturing industry to expand here rather than overseas.
* Increase Supports for Small Businesses and Emerging Entrepreneurs - Small businesses are indisputably the economic engines of this country. Our economic recovery will not be fully realized until we ensure that the small business owner has the opportunity to succeed as they seek to build new innovative 21st century industries and jobs in the areas of clean energy technology, advanced medicine, high efficiency manufacturing, cyber-security, bio-tech, information technology, and green product development.
* Retrain & Retool Unemployed Workers for Emerging Jobs. "Reinvest in America" also would expand the resources of our public Community Colleges to assist in the re-education and training of many of our jobless workers; and provide educational and training stipends for currently jobless workers to enter new jobs in the green sector, and other emerging industries.
